I’m trying to get the sale price but it isn’t being applied, do I need a code?
Without sales applied, regular price for License Renewal is $95 per credit and $175 per Graduate Credit. Sale prices change every few days to a week, are automatically applied, and no code is required to obtain them.
Safe Schools Academy offers teacher License Renewal through the Iowa Board of Education and the Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE), as well as Graduate Credit through our partnership with Drake University.
Safe Schools Academy does not offer the course needed to obtain a substitute authorization, but any Safe Schools Academy License Renewal credits can be completed to renew an existing substitute authorization.
What types of credit does Safe Schools Academy offer?
I've never taken an online class before. What can I expect?
That's ok! We're here to help. Our online classes run in individual three-week sections, are work-at-your-own-pace, and all material is self-contained--which means you don't need any extra books, applications, or software. Syllabi are available by clicking on the course icons in our Safe Schools Academy Online Classes page. Content is course-dependent, but typically involves readings, discussions, and a few prerecorded webinars accessible via YouTube. There's no specific time you need to be online, and the most important part of all our courses is fostering dialogue among the course participants and their work. If you have any specific questions, call 515-381-0588 and our Registrar will assist you.
How do I request my transcripts?
For those who took classes for License Renewal Credit: Go to www.safeschoolsacademy.org/transcripts and they will be emailed to you by the next business day. Be sure to check your junk mail or SPAM folder.
For those who took classes for Graduate Credit: Please visit the Drake University transcript request page located at https://www.drake.edu/registrar/transcripts/ .
Transcripts are available by request only. For License Renewal, transcripts are available two weeks after the course end date. For Graduate Credit from Drake University, this turnaround time is two weeks following the end date of the course, but Safe Schools Academy does not have any control over any processing delays on Drake’s end.
Important: Errors or blanks in registration information may delay turnaround time. Please verify your registration information prior to checkout to ensure your transcript will be processed correctly.
When can I expect my transcripts after I complete a course?

"Rush requests" are available, but they must be requested from the Registrar prior to the last week of class. If your deadline falls within a turnaround time, please email mark@iowasafeschools.org immediately so we can discuss an option within our means. Please schedule your courses accordingly for your License Renewal or Graduate Credit deadlines.
I haven't received any information on how to login to my class! How do I get started?
The Wednesday before your class begins, you will receive a course invitation with the subject of “Canvas - Free for Teacher Login.” This email will NOT have “Safe Schools Academy” in the subject, but it contains the link to access your course. Once you have the email, click the link to set up your Canvas account. Choose “I am a new user” and “I am a student.”
Please check your junk mail, promotions folder, or SPAM folder for this course invitation first. If you haven’t heard from us by 5PM Wednesday before your class start date, please reach out to our Registrar Mark Turnage at mark@iowasafeschools.org or call 515-381-0588 and we’ll be happy to connect you with your course.
Course invitations are not automatic upon checkout—registration information must be entered by the Registrar before they are sent. If you registered for a course between 5pm Friday and 8am Monday, we are out of the office and will enroll you that Monday morning. You will receive an automatic maximum extension of one week to complete your course if you registered after the course start date.
Enrollments are open for any course section until the first Wednesday of class. If you need to enroll after the first Wednesday of class, please contact academy@iowasafeschools.org or call 515-381-0588.
I received the course invitation but now I can’t access Canvas. What do I do?
For technical assistance, please reach out to mark@iowasafeschools.org or call 515-381-0588 and we will do our best to assist you. We are available for technical support Monday – Friday, 8AM-5PM. In the event of technical issues, you will receive an automatic one-week extension from the last day of class.
Beginning 7/1/2021, the minimum registration limit for a class will be three (3) registrants. If your registered class does not meet the minimum registration limit the Wednesday prior to your course start date, our Registrar will contact you about future transfer options.

Do I have an unlimited amount of time to complete my course after I register?
No. All of our courses have defined start and end dates—you’re welcome to move through the class as quickly or slowly as you like, so long as all work is submitted by the course end date. You may request a one-week extension up until the final day of class. However, any work submitted after this time will not be counted for credit, and you will need to be transferred to a future course section to complete the class.
Is there a limit to how many credits I can take at one time?
Participants taking Drake graduate credit can enroll in a maximum of 12 graduate hours per academic semester. If you take more than 12 credit hours, not all of your credits will be issued nor will your money be refunded.
For license renewal credits being issued through Safe Schools Academy, there is no limit, but we encourage all participants to look through the syllabi prior to registering for courses, to best understand the time commitment.
How do I renew my license?
You will submit all of your license renewal transcripts to the BOEE, and their processing time can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks. It is your responsibility as an educator to renew your license in a timely fashion. For more information, visit the BOEE website.
